自サイト更新などでお忙しい中、この辺境のサイトのわがままなお願いを聞いてこころよくインタビューに答えてくださいました！ ＊＊＊　Ｉｎｔｅｒｖｉｅｗ　ｗｉｔｈ　Ｔｒｉｃｉａ　＊＊＊ Ｑ． 小説を書き始めたのはいつ頃ですか？（スラッシュ含む） Ａ． 学生時代から小説は沢山書いていましたが、一度純恋愛（男女間）ロマンス小説を出版社に送って断られて以来、ものを書くことからは遠ざかっていました。 それから９年後、「旅の仲間」を観た私にもう一度天啓が訪れたんです。 最初のスラッシュ小説「Ｒｅｌｅａｓｅ　Ｆｒｏｍ　Ｏｂｌｉｇａｔｉｏｎ（義務 からの解放）」は２００２年の１月に書き上げました。 Ｑ． 小説を書き始めるとき、ストーリーは最後まで決まっていますか？ Ａ． 通常、物語をどう展開させるかということは頭にありますが、必ずしもその通りにストーリーが運ぶとは限りません！ 時には全く違った方向に書き始めることもあるのですが、そこで敢えて流れに逆らうのではなく、成り行きに任せます。 それでも、物語が自分の望まぬ方向に進んでしまった、と感じることはほとんどないのですが。 Ｑ． いつも一本の小説を書くのにどれくらいかかりますか？ Ａ． それは作品によりけりです。ほとんどの作品は少なくとも２〜３日かけて書いています。 語り部分の多い作品や独特な文体を使おうとしている作品の場合は一番時間がかかります。 会話部分の多い作品は私にとってかなり書きやすいですね。 そしてある種の作品−−例えば、アッティ×オーリなど−−はとっても簡単に書けてしまうので、１日で出来てしまうこともあります。 Ｑ． 好きな作家、小説を教えてください。 Ａ． 以前は長編小説を沢山読んでいましたが、自分自身の新しい「Ｊｕｘｔａｐｏｓｅ」（オリジナルファンタジー：注１）のサイトを開いて以来、 ちゃんとした小説を読む時間がなくなってしまいました。現在読むのはインターネット上のものに限られています。 それもスラッシュとやおいのみ！ 誰か特定の小説家の作品、というより同人作品のファンです。 最近では、「ヴァイスクロイツ」や「ファイナルファンタジー８」のようなアニメやゲームの同人作品に凝っています。 Ｑ． 今後、指輪のスラッシュ（ＲＰＳ含む）小説を書く予定はありますか？ Ａ． 何か私の興味をそそるようなネタがあれば、もちろん書くつもりはあります。指輪に関してはＦＰＳもＲＰＳも書きたいとは思っていますが、 それがいつになるか確かなことは云えません。 唯一の例外は「Ｏｆ　Ｅｌｖｅｓ　ａｎｄ　Ａｐｈｒｏｄｉｓｉａｃｓ」（訳者注： ＬＯＴＲのＦＰＳですが、あまりにもえっちいので未訳です！！） シリーズ ですね。 これの続きは「指輪の誘惑」サイトの２０万ヒットの記念として更新する予定です。だって、素晴らしいことですから。 Ｑ． 日本にあなたの作品の読者が沢山いることについてどう思い 　　ますか？ Ａ． そのことに関しては本当に興奮を覚えます。私自身これまでに読んだやおい作品や観たアニメを通して知った日本文化に対して、非常に魅了されていましたから。 今年できれば日本語習得のコースを取る予定ですし、来年もし私の指輪の同人誌「Ｓｅｃｒｅｔ　Ｌｏｖｅｒ」がコミケットに出してもら えることになったら、東京を訪れたいと思っています（注２）。 日本のファンの皆さんはスラッシュ及びやおいに対してかなりの情熱を持っていてくださってて、そのことに関しては本当に素晴らしいことだと思います。 Ｑ． これまでに日本人作家の書いたスラッシュ小説や同人誌（指輪を含む）を読んだことがありますか？ Ａ． もちろんあります。ただ、それが日本の方の作品なのかあるいは米国在住の日系の方の作品なのかはわかりませんが。 私も日本のやおいマンガは沢山持っています。 台詞が読めない（理解できない）のがとってもつらいのですが！ 特に挙げるとすれば、新田祐克さんのファンです。 Ｑ． 日本ではやおい小説や同人誌（もちろん男同士の性描写を含む！）が一部の本屋さんでは普通に売られています。 アメリカではどうですか？ Ａ． 私の見た限り、ゲイ専門の本屋さん以外でそのようなものを見掛けるのは稀ですね。 残念ながら、ここでは日本ほどスラッシュややおいは受け入れられていませんし、認知されてもいません。 ですが、私はその状況を変えられれば、と思っています。 私の書く「Ｊｕｘｔａｐｏｓｅ　Ｆａｎｔａｓｙ」の存在をスラッシュ及びやおい市場で確立し、それを主流にしていきたいのです。 こういったタイプのフィクションの存在を知らない、潜在的なファンは沢山いると私は思っていますから。 Ｑ． アメリカにはコミケ（同人誌即売会）のようなものはありますか？ Ａ． スラッシュややおいに関係のないコミケなら定期的にあります。 それが何と呼ばれているかは知りませんが、とにかく普通のコミックのファンはここにも沢山いますから。 Ｑ． 最後に、日本の読者にメッセージをお願いします！ Ａ． 私の作品に興味を持ってくださって本当にありがとうございます！ 皆さんに娯楽を提供できるということ、特にその方々に幸せな気分やロマンチックな気分を感じて貰えるということは非常にぞくぞくするものです。 読者の方から受け取るファンレターに皆さんがどれだけ私の作品に感動してくれたか、と書いてくださっているような時、自分がまるで世界の女王様になった気分です。 世界の反対側にファンがいてくださるというのは本当に特別なことです。ＬＯＴＲやスラッシュへの愛情を分かち合うということは、 一般的に云っても、双方の文化的障壁を乗り越える、素晴らしいことですから。 私の作品を皆さんに読んでいただけるようにと時間と努力を費やしてくれている＊＊＊（びるぼ１号）に多大なる感謝を捧げます！ Tricia （注１） 「Ｊｕｘｔａｐｏｓｅ　Ｆａｎｔａｓｙ」について： Ｔｒｉｃｉａが現在最も力を注いでいる、彼女の創作ファンタジーシリーズ。 もちろん、スラッシュ。（しかもかなり激しい・・・） 完全オリジナルストーリーで、剣と魔法の世界シリーズと近未来シリーズ の２つの世界が同時進行で連載されています。 いくつかプレビューとして無料で読める作品も掲載されていますが、読み 進めるには定期購読登録をして購読料を振り込む必要あり。 購読料は一ヶ月＄９．９９。ちなみにびるぼ１号は定期購読して密かに 楽しんでいる模様（＾＾）面白いです。 ストーリー概要やキャラクター紹介、及び無料プレビュー作品は翻訳 してもよい、との許可をＴｒｉｃｉａから頂いておりますので、そのうち暇が できたらちょいと紹介してみようかな、と思っております。 （注２） コミケット参加について： 「エステティシズム」というアメリカの指輪同人サークルが募集した 『ＬＯＴＲスラッシュ小説を日本語＆マンガにしてコミケに出そう！』 という企画にＴｒｉｃｉａの作品が選ばれて、同人誌になるそうです。 そしてもしスペースが取れたら、来冬のコミケットにそのサークル 共々やって来られる、とのこと。 もしスペースがとれなくても同人誌はアメリカで発行される予定 だそうで。う〜ん、読んでみたい！ 〜以下、Ｔｒｉｃｉａの送ってくれた原文をそのまま掲載します〜 管理人注：*****は本名なので伏せ字にさせて頂きました。 1. When did you start writing novels (including slash)? I used to write a lot when I was in school, but after I wrote a het (m/f) romance novel that failed to be accepted up by an agent, I got discouraged and gave up writing. Nine years later I saw The Fellowship of the Ring and found my muse again. I wrote my first slash story, "Release From Obligations" in January of 2002. 2. When you start writing a story, do you always decide what you're going to write in it? I usually have a good idea of where I want the story to go, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it gets there! Sometimes, I start writing in another direction, so instead of fighting it, I just go with it. Rarely do I ever feel like a story didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. 3. How long does it take for you to write a novel, usually? It depends upon the story. Most stories take me at least two to three days. Stories with a lot of narration or ones in which I'm trying to use a unique style of storytelling take the longest to write. Stories that are mostly conversations are very easy for me. And some types of stories -- my Atti/Orli stories, for example -- are so easy to write that I can finish them in one day. 4. Tell us about your favorite writers or novels. I used to read a lot of full-length novels, but now with my new Juxtapose site, I don't have the time to read a full book. My reading is limited to the internet. I only read slash and yaoi! I'm a fan of fandoms, more than particular writers. Currently, I love anime and gaming fandoms like Weiss Kreuz and Final Fantasy 8. 5. Are you planning to write any more LOTR slash (including RPS)? When something sparks my interest, I will definitely write about it. I do intend to write for both LOTR FPS and RPS, but I can't say for certain when that is. The only exception is "Of Elves and Aphrodisiacs". I'm going to update that to commemmorate(celebrate) the Lure's 200,000th hit, an event which I think is amazing. 6. How do you feel about that you have many readers in Japan? I'm so excited by that fact. I'm fascinated by what I've been learning about Japanese culture through my reading of yaoi and watching anime. I plan to take a Japanese language course sometime this year and hopefully visit Tokyo next year if my LOTR doujinshi "Secret Lover" is accepted into Comiket. Japanese fans are very passionate about their slash/yaoi and I think that's fantastic. 7. Have you ever read any slash novel or doujinshi (including LOTR), written by Japanese writer? I'm sure I have. Whether or not this was someone from Japan or was of Japanese descent living in the U.S., I'm not sure. I do have a lot of Japanese yaoi mangas. It tortures me that I can't read what they say! I'm a fan of Youka Nitta, in particular. 8. In Japan, Yaoi novels and doujinshi (contains homosexual description, of course!) are sold in some bookshop in town. How about in USA? I've looked and it's rare to find them outside of gay interest bookstores. Slash and yaoi is not as accepted or acknowledged as it is over in Japan, unfortunately. I hope to change that, though. I plan to make JuxtaposeFantasy a major presence in the slash/yaoi market and make it more mainstream. I think there are a lot of potential fans out there who are unaware that this type of fiction exists. 9. Do you have any kind of Comic Market (doujinshi spot sale) in USA? There are regular Comic Markets for comics that aren't slash/yaoi related. I'm not sure what they're called, but general comics have a large following here. 10. Finally, please give a message to your readers in Japan! Thanks so much for showing an interest in my work! It's a thrill to provide entertainment for others, especially in a fashion that makes people happy and feel romantic. When I receive fan letters from readers telling me how much a story touched them, I feel like the queen of the world, lol. It's extra special to have fans across the world.
